Privacy Policy — ALPlateReader

Summary

ALPlateReader does not collect anything. Nothing you photograph, read, or save is sent to us or to anyone else. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party trackers. Everything the app produces stays in its private storage on your phone until you delete it or uninstall the app.

How you can verify that

The app does not request INTERNET permission. Android grants network access only to apps that declare it, so ALPlateReader is not able to open a network connection at all — this is enforced by the operating system, not by our policy.

The complete permission list is:

Permission Why
CAMERA To view the camera and read plates. Frames are processed on the device.

That is the entire list, including permissions contributed by the libraries the app is built with. You can confirm it yourself on the app's Google Play listing under "App permissions".

What the app stores on your device

Data Where Purpose
Plate images (a crop of the plate and its surroundings) App-private storage Shown in History
Recognized plate text, date, time, confidence App-private database The "seen before" alert
Your settings App-private preferences Remembering your choices

No location, no device identifiers, no contacts, and no account information are collected or stored.

App-private storage is not readable by other apps on your phone.

Cloud backup is switched off. The app sets allowBackup="false" and excludes itself from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer, so plate images and history are not copied into your Google account or moved to a new phone. They exist only on the device that recorded them.

No location is recorded

The app does not request location permission, does not use any location API, and stores no coordinates. A saved sighting is the plate text, the date and time, the image, and a confidence value — nothing about where you or the vehicle were. Saved images contain no EXIF metadata, so they carry no GPS tag either.

Recognition happens on the device

Plate detection and character recognition run entirely on your phone using models bundled inside the app. No image is uploaded for processing, and the app works with the network switched off.

What can leave your device

Nothing. There is no export, no upload and no share feature in this app.

Earlier development builds could save extra plate photographs to help improve recognition, and could package them into a zip for you to share. Neither is part of the published app. They are not switched off or hidden — they are absent: the capture and export code is excluded at compile time and is not present in the installed binary.

Deleting your data

There is nothing held anywhere else, so there is no deletion request to make and no one to make it to.

Third parties

None. The app contains no analytics, crash reporting, advertising or attribution SDKs. It is built with Google's AndroidX and Material libraries, JetBrains' Kotlin libraries, and the Tencent ncnn inference runtime — none of which transmit data from this app.

Children

ALPlateReader is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone. Since it collects nothing at all, this is a statement of fact rather than a commitment we have to police.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new effective date. If a future version ever collected or transmitted data, that change would be described plainly before it took effect.
